The Search Screen is where you begin a search. Type the words that you want to find in the text box
and then click the SEARCH button. Searchasaurus will automatically search the database you've selected on the map
for articles that contain your words. Once Searchasaurus has finished searching the database, the articles that are found
will be displayed in a Result List.
You can use the words: AND, OR, NOT between your search words to narrow or broaden
your search.
- Use the word AND between two words to narrow your search. For example, type fossils
AND dinosaurs to find articles that contain both words in each article.
- Use the word OR between two words to broaden your search and find many different topics at once.
For example, type cats OR dogs to find articles that contain
either "cats" or "dogs".
- Use the word NOT between two words to exclude a word from your search.
For example, type fruit NOT bananas to find articles on "fruit" but do not include "bananas".
Use the Wildcard and Truncation symbols in your search to find unknown characters, multiple spellings or various endings.
- The Wildcard is represented by a question mark ?. Use the Wildcard when you are unsure of the correct spelling of a word. For example, type ne?t to find articles containing "neat", "nest" or "next". Searchasaurus will not find words like "net" because the Wildcard replaces a single character.
- Truncation is represented by an asterisk *. Enter the root of a search word and replace the ending with an *. Searchasaurus will find all forms of that word. For example, type comput* to find the words "computer", "computerize", or "computing".
